About
Walter grew up in a sailing family based in Marblehead, Massachusetts, summering in mid-coast Maine. Now a long-time Maine resident, Walter enjoys sailing Maine's beautiful coastal waters. Boats, especially sailboats, have been his lifelong passion.
In college Walter was mentored by Edson Schock. He later worked closely with K.Aage Nielsen and Olin Stephens. Walter made his mark early, leading the team at Hood Systems in the development of the C-Stay and the first successful around-the-headstay roller furling systems. Some of those patents are in his name.
In addition to working for such high-ranking design offices as Ted Hood, John Gilbert, Bath Iron Works and Hodgdon Yachts, Inc., Walter has since been able to create his own design office, working from his home in mid-coast Maine.
